Nlrp3 (NLR family, pyrin domain containing 3) encodes a pattern-recognition receptor that forms the NLRP3 inflammasome, a multiprotein complex involved in innate immune signaling and inflammatory responses. Its activity is associated with responses to bacteria and viruses and with regulation of acute inflammation. NLRP3 contains ATPase activity and functions as a signaling adaptor within the inflammasome complex. Dysregulation of its human ortholog is associated with autoinflammatory disorders, including familial cold autoinflammatory syndrome and Muckle-Wells syndrome, as well as other inflammatory conditions.

AML12 (alpha mouse liver 12) is a mouse hepatocyte-derived cell line established from hepatocytes of a transgenic CD1 mouse expressing human transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-α). The cell line represents a non-tumorigenic liver cell model and is used for studies of hepatocyte biology, liver metabolism, and molecular mechanisms regulating hepatic function.
